Home Sleep Testing
The gold standard sleep test is an overnight polysomonogram, performed at hospitals and free standing sleep laboratories. One of the biggest obstacles to treating sleep apnea is the objection to sleeping overnight in a lab, often at a cost of $ 4,000 - $ 5,000. Many people do not feel comfortable being monitored during the night with electrodes on their head and torso, and having a tech watching them sleep (which is a requirement of the overnight polysomnogram).
A more economical and convenient alternative to laboratory based testing is the home sleep test (HST). Better Sunrise offers in-home sleep testing with equipment that is delivered to the patient at home for use for one night of testing. Patients are tested in the privacy and comfort of their own home sleeping environment so the results are very representative of typical nightly sleep data. The cost of the test is $ 295 and is covered by most health insurance plans.
